DAY 1: EN ROUTE – Depart U.S.A., overnight flight to Tel Aviv. Dinner and breakfast served on board. (D,B)
DAY 2: TEL AVIV – JERUSALEM – Arrival at Ben Gurion airport, met and transferred by Pharos tour host to hotel. Overnight Tel Aviv. (B)
DAY 3: CAESAREA – MEGIDDO – Drive along the Mediterranean coast to Caesarea, once the Roman capital of the Holy Land. See the excavations of the Crusader city, Roman port, aqueduct and the amphitheater, now restored to its former glory as a concert venue. On to Megiddo, see the excavations of King Solomon’s stables and 20 layers of civilization. Continue with a visit to a Druze village on Mt. Carmel. Overnight in Haifa. (B)
DAY 4: HAIFA- AKKO – SAFED – GOLAN HEIGHTS – Begin the tour of Haifa at the summit of Mt. Carmel for a panoramic view of the Haifa Bay and Western Galilee. Continue to the olden domed Bahai shrine to see the exotic Persian Gardens. Drive to Akko, visit the Crypt of St. John and the underground Crusader city. Proceed to Safed, the center of Jewish mysticism, visit the ancient synagogue and the artists colony. Continue to the Golan Heights to see the former Syrian bunkers, Kuneitra and the new Israeli town of Katzrin. Overnight in Tiberias. (B)
DAY 5: NAZARETH – SEA OF GAULlE – TIBERIAS – JERICHO – Begin with a visit to Capernaum, see the ruins of the synagogue and the town of Jesus. Then to Nazareth, visit the Church of the Annunciation, continue via Beit Shean to Beit Alpha, see the remains of the mosaic floor of an ancient synagogue. Drive along the Jordan Valley via Jericho, the world’s oldest city. Overnight in Jerusalem. (B)
DAY 6: JERUSALEM – MT. ZION – OLD CITY – BETH LEHEM – Visit the Tomb of King David and the room of the last super on Mt. Zion. Enter the walled city and walk through the newly restored Jewish Quarter. See the Roman Cardo, the Herodian and continue to the Western Wall. Walk along the Via Dolorosa to the church of the Holy Sepulcher. Proceed to Mt. Scopus and then to the Mt. of Olives for a magnificent view of the old City. Continue to Bethlehem, stop at Rachel’s tomb and the church of the Nativity. Overnight in Jerusalem. (B)
DAY 7: JERUSALEM – NEW CITY – Drive to Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Karem to see the Chagall stained glass windows. Proceed to Bayit Vagan, visit the miniature model of Jerusalem as it was during the Second Temple period. Continue to Yad Vashem, the memorial to the Holocaust, then to the Israel Museum. Visit the Shrine of the book where the Dead Sea scrolls are exhibited. See Knesset, Israel’s Parliament and the Givat Ram Campus of the Hebrew University. Overnight in Jerusalem. (B)
DAY 8: QUMRAN – MASADA – DEAD SEA – Drive through the Judean desert to the Dead Sea, the lowest paint on earth – almost 1 300 feet (400 meters) below sea level. Stop at Qumran, the site 7 where the Dead Sea scrolls were found. Drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to Masada. Ascend by cable car and tour the ancient fortress where the zealots made their last stand against the Romans before committing suicide in 73 AD. Descend by cable car. Time and weather permitting, bathe in the Dead Sea. Overnight in Jerusalem. (B)
DAY 9: JERUSALEM – Day at leisure.
DAY 10: JERUSALEM – ALLEN BY BRIDGE – AMMAN – Drive from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem to Allenby Bridge. Complete border crossing and enter the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Drive to the town of Madaba, the biblical Madoba, 30 kilometers south of Amman. Madaba is best town for its Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and the Greek Orthodox church of St. George, visitors may view the earliest surviving original map of the Holy Land. Continue west to Mt. Nebo, believed to be the sight of the tomb of Moses Mt Nebo commands a spectacular view across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Drive to the modern capital city of Amman, formerly the Ammonite capital city of Rabbath-Ammon. Amman overnight (B)
DAY 11: AMMAN – PETRA – AMMAN – Depart from the hotel and drive south to Wadi Musa. On horseback, travel through the an immense crack in the Nubian sandstone, to the city of Petra. Two thousand years ago the Nabateans carved a city out of the rose-red rock, the Treasury, El Klazneh, it is one of the most ele gant remains of antiquity. Beyand El Khaz0-neh the visitor is surround ed on both sides by hundreds of Petra’s carved and built structures Return through the Siq to Wadi Muso, and then on to Amman Overnight in Amman. (B)
DAY 12: AMMAN – ALLENBY BRIDGE – TEL AVIV – Morning at leisure. Drive from Amman to Allenby Bridge for return to Tel Aviv Overnight in Tel Aviv. (B)
DAY 13: TEL AVIV – DEPART – Breakfast, transfer to Ben Gurion for return flight to New York. (Extensions available. All denomination pilgrimages available). (B)
