Rhodes
The largest of the Dodecanese, Rhodes (or Rodos) has become an important regional center thanks to its loca tion, climate and natural attractions. It is known as the isle of the sun. Pindar mentions in one of his Odes that it was born of the union of Helios the sun god and the nymph Rhoda. Rhodes, is not an ordinary holiday resort but a cosmopolitan place of international reputation. Indeed, this rela tively limited space, endowed with innumerable natural beauties, is rightly considered a tourists’ paradise. In Rhodes everyone can choose their preferred type of holiday – the intensity of an excellently equipped major resort or the peace and quiet of a small, traditional sea-side or mountain village.
